Recently, at the 2024 China New Energy Storage Industry Innovation Alliance Annual Conference, the Electric Power Planning and Design Institute released the "China New Energy Storage Development Report 2024" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"), which pointed out that from the perspective of the power supply and demand situation and the future development of conventional power sources, strengthening the power supply system is a key task in building a new power system, and new energy storage will become an important supplement to the construction of the power supply guarantee support system.
The report shows that since 2023, the scale of new energy storage in China has grown rapidly, various technologies have diversified, innovative demonstration applications have been gradually implemented, industrial development has been continuously improved, standard systems have become increasingly sound, and policy systems have gradually formed. As of the end of 2023, the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage projects that have been put into operation nationwide has reached 31.39 million kilowatts/66.88 million kilowatt hours, with an average energy storage duration of 2.1 hours, nearly 10 times the final installed capacity of the 13th Five Year Plan. The planned new energy storage installed capacity has been completed two years ahead of schedule. Among them, the newly installed capacity for the whole year of 2023 was about 22.7 million kilowatts/48.78 million kilowatt hours, an increase of about 260% compared to the end of 2022.
The report believes that as an important means to promote the consumption of new energy, it is expected that by the end of the 14th Five Year Plan and the 15th Five Year Plan period, new energy storage can become an important means to cope with large-scale grid connection and consumption of new energy with advantages such as short construction period, flexible layout, and strong transient regulation ability. From a technical perspective, it is expected that long-term energy storage with a storage time of 4 hours or more will become the main force in the development of the energy storage industry in the future.
Wang Chengshan, an academician of the CAE Member and vice chairman of the expert committee of the China New Energy Storage Industry Innovation Alliance, said that in the past year, China's new energy storage industry has flourished, the trend of technological diversification is obvious, policy support has been strengthened, and the ability to support the construction of a new power system has been growing.
Wang Chengshan suggested increasing research investment, promoting interdisciplinary integration, strengthening key core technology research, and improving the comprehensive performance and economy of new energy storage technologies; Strengthen the collaboration of the industrial chain, promote the deep integration of new energy storage technologies with industries such as wind and solar power generation and electric vehicles, and form a good situation of mutual promotion and common development; Based on market demand, develop rich and diverse application scenarioses, promote innovative applications on the power generation side, grid side, and user side, and promote the realization of diverse values; Establish a multidisciplinary education system for energy storage talents, cultivate innovative and applied talents, promote the transformation of scientific research achievements, and provide a talent foundation and innovative support for the development of new energy storage.
